Daniel Linehan previously worked as a dancer and choreographer in New York before moving to Brussels in 2008. In Brussels he completed the Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. As a performer, Linehan has worked with Miguel Gutierrez and Big Art Group, among other artists. He has collaborated with Michael Helland on multiple duet projects, which have been presented in New York, Philadelphia, and Montréal. He was also a 2007-2008 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence.
Linehan’s own choreographic work is intent on softly obscuring the line that separates dance from everything else. He approaches performance-making from the point of view of a curious amateur, testing various interactions between dance and non-dance forms, searching for unlikely conjunctions, juxtapositions, and parallels between texts, movements, images, songs, videos, and rhythms. His work first came to attention in 2004 with the solo Digested Noise, presented in Fresh Tracks (Dance Theater Workshop, New York). In 2005 and 2006, he worked with a team of four other dancers to create The Sun Came (Triskelion Arts, Brooklyn), and Human Content Pile (The Kitchen, New York).
In 2007, Linehan premiered the solo Not About Everything (Dance Theater Workshop), which has since been presented in over 50 venues internationally. In 2009, he premiered the duet Montage for Three in the Rencontres chorégraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis (Paris). In 2010, he created the quartet Being Together Without Any Voice for his graduation project at P.A.R.T.S. His latest projects were Zombie Aporia, (premiere: March 2011, Vooruit, Ghent), and Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost (premiere: 2012, deSingel, Antwerp).
His choreography has also been presented in Berlin (Tanz im August), Vienna (ImPulsTanz), London (Sadler's Wells), Amsterdam (Julidans), Paris (Théâtre de la Bastille), Brussels (Kaaitheater), Antwerp (deSingel), and Lille (Latitudes contemporaines). Linehan is Artiste Associé 2012-2013 at deSingel (Antwerpen, BE), New Wave Associate 2012-2014 at Sadler's Wells (London, UK) and Artist-in-Residence 2013-2016 at l'Opéra de Lille (FR)
