Current Residency: SE
Generation: 5 | 2000-2004
Last Update: January 21, 2013
Kajsa Sandström (SE) works professionally with dance and choreography since 2004. She worked as dancer with actor Frank Vercruyssen/Tg STAN (BE) 2005, choreographer Mette Ingvartsen (DK) 2003-2007, Cie Kubilai Khan Investigations (FR) 2008-2010.
Since 2006 Sandström develops own projects initiated by artistic interests and questions, often in collaboration with other artists from dance as well as related fields. By displacing her own knowledge in meeting, collision and dialogue, she finds potential to work choreographically and with dance in new ways. In each project certain specific practices and methods are continually forming the process. Material is derived from studying and experimenting with ideas. Sandström is interested in how choreography can frame and articulate ways of looking at the experience of movement, perception and bodily presence within different spaces and media. In front of an audience she wants to engage by letting material and situation create openings for reflection.
Recent touring: “Con/text” 2010, with Ylva Henrikson, “In the Mirror- A solo choreography in the footsteps of Maya Deren” 2009, “I need a witness to perform” 2009, in collaboration with David Bergé. In collaboration with Frédéric Alstadt the piece “Between dog and wolf” premiered at Dansens Hus, Stockholm, March 2012.
In March 2013 her new solo THESE IMAGES ARE WRITTEN ON MY BODY premieres at MDT Stockholm, with further presentation at Movement Research at the Judson Church, New York, June 2013. In collaboration with writer/director Kevin Doyle (USA) the performance these words [a study in lying] will develop in Sweden and New York during 2013.
