Milø Slayers BE

Milø Slayers (Brussels °1993) is a dancer and choreographer, with additional interests in photography, poetry, music, stop-motion animation, and the organisation of cultural events.
His artistic practice started in 2014 when he co-founded Brussels-based dance company
Slayers, good for hip-hop battles and for his own dance creations such as Cyborg’s Quest (2015).

Meanwhile, in 2015, Milø started his contemporary dance training at L’Institut Supérieure des Arts en des Choréographies (ISAC) within the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Completing his master’s degree in 2020, he focused on the practice of the body, questioning the space between the choreographic arts and the plastic arts.

As his professional debut, Milø created Monstrare/Monere (2021, STUK), a solo centred around the multifaceted theme of ‘monstrosity’ and the subtle boundaries between man and machine/animal/nature. Following this, he choreographed the group performance DEMONstratio (2023, Charleroi danse), inspired by Malevitch’s painting Black Square (1915) and the racist inscription discovered under the paint.

Currently, Milø is working on (dys)CORPUS, a research focusing on all the possibilities of the body and how we present it, way beyond normality. Milø explores the different parts and movements of the body we usually ignore as well as the relation to the body to see possible relationships with the micro-organism, the impact of technology such as the screen and handicaps as a way of reconnecting to what's deepest. Milø’s artistic practice combines multiple spheres of influence coming from different forms of art. In his works, he’s heavily influenced by ‘monstrosity’ and abstracting the ‘the body, questioning binary oppositions (such as the Western division between spiritual rationalism and bodily intuition), and the impact of the virtual on our perception of identity.

Furthermore, Milø co-founded and curated the multidisciplinary festival Abstraho (2017-2021) partnered with Bronks, Decoratelier and Kunstenfestivaldesarts. Today, he’s actively involved in the organization of ‘Fancy Legs’ and ‘Theroom’, with which he seeks to break down the boundaries between alternative urban circuits and the mainstream performing arts field.

Besides his own choreographic work, he also dances in works by other choreographers, such as Coloured Swan 3: Harriets Remix by Moya Michael (Selection Theatre Festival 2021) and L’arbre qui cachait la forêt by Sophie Sénécaut.
