Marita Schwanke BE

Marita Schwanke is an artist based in Belgium. She was born in Hamburg, Germany and is half polish. In early childhood she discovered her passion for dance and movement. She studied contemporary dance and choreography first at ArtEZ, Arnhem and then at PARTS, Brussels.

Since her graduation Marita has been working as a freelancer in different projects and performing her own works. She also started to build up her artistic practice "Allowing for space", inspired by eastern principles and practices (Qigong/ Taiji), different western mindful techniques (Body-Mind Centering©, Skinner Releasing, Fascia therapy and others) as well as Breaking, which she is continuously working on. Throughout her artistic trajectory Marita has the luck to be mentored by dancer and dance maker Eva Karczag who's approach to body and dance is a profound inspiration for Marita.

In 2022 she also began to collaborate with her partner Adem Ouhaibia in his ongoing practice “Breaking Technologies”. In 2025 Marita graduated from the Body-Mind academy in Brussels with a degree as a Fascia and Dance therapist.

The media of dance and writing are her main media of expression, research and performance. But also photography, drawing, and music are present in her practice.

As a choreographer and performer it is important to her to connect with the audience, to enter into a conversation of artistic expression that hopefully leaves an imprint and awakens a curiosity.
