DESCRIPTION

This SummerLab is an opportunity to practically engage with Dan Daw Creative Projects’ (DDCP) approach to making work. Participants will work with choreographers Dan Daw (UK/Australia) and Sarah Blanc (UK/Ireland) to use improvisation and text to generate choreographic material, starting with key themes of individual and collective resilience – taken from DDCP’s latest work EXXY. "As the World pits us against each other we, as disabled, queer, working-class people need to work together to not only survive but thrive" (DDCP). The week is aimed at performance artists / makers who exist on the fringes and, for whatever reason, have felt like they don’t quite belong. The workshop will include moving, writing, conversation, and being in community.

BIO DAN DAW

Dan Daw Creative Projects (DDCP) is a disabled-led company who are leading the way in creating accessible internationally touring work that blurs the lines between theatre, dance and activism, alongside creating systemic change in institutions and the sector for d/Deaf and disabled artists and audiences through long-term partnerships and residencies.

Based in the UK, Dan Daw Creative Projects have presented their work at British Dance Edition (UK), Swedish Performing Arts Biennale (SWE), Sydney Festival, Sydney Opera House and Rising Festival (AUS), Kampnagel and Sophiensaele (DE), Under the Radar/Performance Space New York (USA) and Sadler’s Wells and Battersea Arts Centre (UK) amongst others. From 2023 to 2025 the company was in residence at Kampnagel (Hamburg) as Agents for Change, exploring what accessibility looks like across a venue, including programming, residencies, audience experience, capital development and human resources.

DDCP’s work explores what it means for disabled bodies to occupy, and be unapologetic in, non-disabled spaces. Their mission is to use the arts to provoke change and reclaim space. They use dance, theatre and activism to educate, inspire and advocate for those whose lived experiences are similar to DDCP’s own.
