OPEN CALL: SummerLab with Platform K from July 14 to 18.

During the Summer of P.A.R.T.S., Platform K is invited to organise a week of movement workshops centred around inclusive dance practices and guided by choreographer Andrew Graham.

Throughout the week we will explore various kinds of encounters on the dance floor. The days are divided into different workshops, guided by Graham. The morning workshops focus on warming up the body and stimulating its inspiration through dynamic and meditative exercises, drawing from contact improvisation, couple dancing, release technique, and whaacking. In the afternoon workshops, we will examine and expand notions of line, unison, soloing and grouping, to open up different ways of moving together. Collectively, we explore the dynamics of the group, in its diversity of individuals, experiences, imaginations and embodiments.

The training and workshops take place in English and French. Translation to Dutch is available on the dancefloor. Basic dance experience required.

Are you a (disabled or non-disabled) dancer who is interested in diving deeper into inclusive practices? Are you open to collaborating and exploring with other dancers ? And are you 15 years or older and available from July 14 to 18? Please get in touch!

TEACHERS

Andrew Graham is a choreographer whose practice centres around inclusive dance and stimulating participation in the arts. Collaborating with mixed-ability groups, Graham’s work focuses on embodied encounters and creating connections. Rather than passing judgement on what bodies should look like, his work embraces a variety of aesthetics and bodies, exploring their interactions on the dance floor.

Stéphane Bourhis is a dancer and yoga trainer. He trained at the Conservatoire National de Danse in Avignon and danced with the Ballet du Théâtre de Lucerne and the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. He is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher since 2013, currently teaching at P.A.R.T.S. Bourhis further deepens his practice through teaching in various contexts and projects and regular stays and exchanges with the Iyengar family in Pune, India. During the SummerLab, the yoga classes will focus on the specificity of Iyengar yoga while emphasizing and exploring accessibility, inclusivity, and adaptive practices.
