Workshop 'Melting Pot' with Marco Torrice
The class is rooted in 'Melting Pot,' a hybrid dance practice based on improvisation and conceived to facilitate dialogue and exchange among dancers from different styles. This dance form provides a space where participants can freely express various emotions, including joy, anger, sensuality, and social frustration. Blending aspects of performance and recreation, 'Melting Pot' incorporates various stage presentation approaches. This includes the frontal contemplation of the dance show, the 'Cypher' – a typical improvisational structure of Street Dance, and the 'Happening' with participative performances, where the audience and performers merge into the same role/function.
Within the workshop, specific elements of this dance practice will be individually explored to concentrate on its technical aspects. Simultaneously, I will share the compositional structures of 'Melting Pot,' enabling participants to craft their unique interpretations of the work.
Some of the elements that will be explored during the workshop are:
- The movement possibilities of the torso/dorsal spine and the isolation of the movement of the head, chest, and pelvis.
- The dialogue between the floor and the body through the walking pattern, pushes, pulls, frictions, pivots, turns, falls, and jumps.
- Group connections and awareness through the space.
- Rhythm as a bridge to connect with oneself, others, and the music.
The rhythm will play a central role, not only facilitating exchange and fostering learning through the 'dancing together', but also serving as a bridge to empower a profound sense of togetherness.
