Moya Michael ZA

Moya Michael is an acclaimed dancer, choreographer, and mentor whose interdisciplinary practice explores the complexities of the diasporic condition. Bringing together artistic research, movement, visual art, and music, she creates poetic and multilayered live performances that challenge conventions in contemporary dance and theatre.

Questions of ancestrality and cultural lineage remain central to her practice, often articulated through intercultural and intergenerational collaboration. Alongside her own productions, Moya has worked with some of the most visionary artists in contemporary dance, including Akram Khan, Gregory Maqoma, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Rosas, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet/Eastman, Faustin Linyekula, David Hernandez, Mårten Spångberg, Keyon Gaskin, Selma and Sofiane Ouissi, and Jin Xing.

Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Moya is now based in Brussels, Belgium, where she maintains an ongoing partnership with the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS).
