Tarek Halaby

Tarek Halaby (1980) is a Palestinian-American dancer and performer living in Brussels. He was born and raised in Saudi Arabia and at the age of 10 moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he began to study dance and voice. In 2001, he graduated with his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance from The University of Iowa. After starting his career in the independent dance scene in New York City, he left for Europe in 2004 to complete his training in the Advanced Research Cycle at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He has developed several projects that combine movement, text and song and has toured extensively with them. Distinguished by his natural ease and versatility as a performer, he is often invited to collaborate with different artists. He has worked most notably with New York choreographer Miguel Gutierrez, Zurich director Martin Zimmermann, Swedish electronic band The Knife, Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas, Belgian filmmaker Manu Riche and more recently with Ictus Ensemble for Liquid Room No. 10: Robert Ashely and the Theatre of Voices. From dance, theater, singing and music, to television, voiceover and cinema, Tarek has always performed in a wide range of projects.
